Mau settlement controversy rages on

IN 1998, the Government resolved to hive off part of the 46,273 hectares of the Mau Forest to settle the landless.

At around the same time, Five Group Ranches within the same locality on the side of Narok District were sub-dividing land to members who wanted to settle and start subsistence farming.
Although the two incidences had good intentions — to resettle the landless —it was the beginning of what many now describe as a nightmare.

Dreams have been shattered and lifetime savings destroyed in the mess that followed the resettlement.
