What can you do to help?

FOREST CONSERVATION IS FOR EVERYONE.

KFWG - with others - has been working to tackle the threats facing our forests. But, we or the governemnt cannot do it alone. We all – government, NGOs, private sector, local communities, individuals and the general public – need to work together to conserve forests and promote their sustainable use for this and future generations.

You can:

  1. Report or protest against forest destruction and illegal activities in your area. Talk to the local District Forest Officer, provincial administration, KWS Warden or call the KFWG hotline.
  2. Plant or support tree planting on private and public land to reduce pressure on indigenous forests.
  3. Urge government through your leaders such as Members of Parliament to ensure adequate resources are allocated for forest protection and management.
  4. Encourage your Member of Parliament to support formulation of forest and people friendly laws and policies.
  5. Avoid buying illegally acquired forest products such as timber. Always ask where the product is coming from. Promote the use of alternatives.
  6. Raise awareness about the importance of forests in your local community.

About the Kenya Forest Conservation Trust

The Kenya Forest Conservation Trust was set up following the realization that KFWG needed an accessible fund to cater for emerging activities that require urgent attention. It was set up at a time when the KFWG was actively involved in the campaign against the forest excisions announced by the government in year 2001.

The Trust is registered in Kenya and is managed by a Board of Trustees. Currently, the KFWG secretariat serves as the contact address for the Trust. Contact the Trustees at the Kenya Forests Working Group P.O. Box 20110 - 00200 Nairobi, City Square or email us for details.
